Several months ago, Steve A. from Merced sent me an e-mail saying he enjoyed reading Wine Line and liked the common sense wine recommendations from What's On Our Table. One wine he mentioned that I haven't commented on, is Malbec, especially those from Argentina. This grape originally comes from the Cahor region in southwest France. The English refer to Malbec as "Black Wine" because of its dark, inky color and tannic grittiness. This is exactly why Bordeaux producers add it to their Claret blend.
