YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK In the 1970s, Ken Yager was a typical Yosemite climbing bum. He had long hair, dressed in raggedy clothes and avoided the parks camping limits by living in a cave near Curry Village.
Anyone in the community who would like to donate dollars to the Steven Stayner and Missing Children's Memorial is asked to make checks payable to the city of Merced Steven Stayner Trust Fund and mail to c/o 3387 San Fernando Court, Merced, CA 95340. Donations will pay for a statue of two figures, Steven Stayner, depicted at 15, and Timmy White, at age 5. It will stand in the new entrance to Applegate Park at 26th and M streets and will commemorate Stayner's heroic act of rescuing Timmy from a pedophile.
Atwater United Methodist Church will begin a new worship service at 5 on Sunday evenings. "Alive At Five" will take place in the Fellowship Hall at 2550 Linden St.
After 28 years of serving California, the UC Master Gardener program will be extending its programming into Merced County. An information session regarding the certification process for UC Master Gardener volunteers will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the UC Cooperative Extension classroom located at 2145 Wardrobe Ave.
