November 28, 1983: The Greenbrier, the two-story home at 21st and K Street, is one of the 17 sites california placed on the National Register of Historic Places after nomination Aug.5 by the State Historical Resources Commission. Greenbrier, built in 1887, was placed on the National register as a historical landmark on Sept.15. The land, the house and much of the area around it changed hands many times over the years. The house was first known as the Maj. George Beecher Cook House, the name under which it was presented to the national register. The house's final name was acquired when Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Freen acquired the house in 1943, renovated it and kept it as a boarding house. They renamed it Grennbrier for their surnames: Mildred's maiden name was Brier.
